Patrick L. Coleman

Patrick L. Coleman, MA, retired in August 2011.  His last positions were Deputy Director in charge of special projects for the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Communication Programs (CCP) and Managing Director of the Johns Hopkins affiliated Johns Hopkins Health and Education in South Africa.  Since 1986, he has been a faculty member of the Bloomberg School of Public Health.  With over 35 years of experience in development communication, he has worked in reproductive health, HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis, nutrition, maternal and child health, women in development, environmental protection and agricultural programs in more than 60 countries. Until his posting in South Africa in 2003, he provided management and te4chnical expertise to both domestic and international health programs with federal, private and United Nations funding.  He oversaw the work of over 200 people, including 26 field offices, with an annual budget of more than $70 million.  He served as a Senior Resident Advisor in the Philippines from 1990 to 1996 and working with the Department of Health oversaw the design and implementation of large-scale health communication initiatives.  In South Africa he managed a staff of 20 working in HIV and AIDS plus tuberculosis communication programmes.  The annual budget is more than $15 million.  His innovative work in entertainment-education programs has been recognized by communication professionals around the world and helped CCP win numerous national and international awards.
